A Calgary weekend from a Grey Eagle base

Friday. Check in, then the Calgary Tower: observation level 191 metres above downtown, with the Sky 360 revolving restaurant if you want dinner with the view. Back at the resort, a late plate at the Buffet (18+, inside the casino) or the Stage Bar if you are in before five.

Saturday. Stephen Avenue, which is 8 Avenue SW/SE: a pedestrian mall of historic sandstone buildings, the National Historic Site portion running from 4 Street SW to 1 Street SE to Olympic Plaza opposite City Hall. Then East Village and Studio Bell, the National Music Centre at 850 4 Street SE. Lunch on 17th Avenue SW in the Beltline. Evening: Little Chief, booked ahead, or a show at the Event Centre.

Sunday. The mountains about an hour west on Highway 1, or Glenmore Reservoir ten minutes from the resort, then the outdoor hot tub before the drive home. Checkout is unhurried: parking is free.

July. The Calgary Stampede runs from Stampede Park; the 2027 dates are 9 to 18 July. Rooms across the city, this resort included, go early for those ten days.
